lotus pollen
2016
The work is created for MoCA Pavillon of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Shanghai. It is specified for the space and its very location at the city center of Shanghai. The entire floor of the space is covered with pollens of lotus, along with some objects found nearby which contain the character of the location. Visitors could step in the space, stand above the pollens with a foot plank made with pallets.
Pollens are called living fossil of the plant kingdom. They can easily retain for a very long time in the environment, thousands, ten thousands of years or even more. Historians and archaeologists collect the ancient pollens such as pollens at the bottom of lake to analyze the transition of climate and the change of species.
